Researchers beliee lupus may be triggered by a combination of genetics, hormones, and environmental factors. Ticks, carb-containing diets and bone fractures do not cause lupus. The exact origin remains a mystery.

Though men and children can also develop lupus, 90% of people with lupus are women, most commonly developing symptoms between the ages of 15 and 44.

Lupus is known as “The Great Imitator” because its symptoms can closely resemble those of other diseases and can come and go over time, making diagnosis difficult.

No special diet has been found to cure lupus or cause it to go into remission.
